Three years ago, Andy picked up his first DSLR to document a trip to Maine, where he grew up. It sparked something in him and while he lived in Atlanta for a few years, his job afforded him the chance to travel a lot, which inspired him to shoot more, capturing the world around him that most overlook.

Andy now calls Los Angeles home, shooting portrait, fashion and music work. He loves music and wishes he had the talent to make it, but instead, now documents the fascinating and inspiring people who do. Although he still is new to the craft you can find him shooting everyday for his clients or his personal project Without Magic, in which he burns tons of film on his old Canon AE-1 and 35mm Olympus Stylus Epic in and around Hollywood and other travels. He views his friends and fellow photographers as a community of inspiration rather than competition which in turns pushes everyone to make better and more unique art.

Nirrimi Hakanson Photography

The pretty young thing Nirrimi Hakanson is the 17-year-old photographic wonder child who now calls Sydney her home. She’s the daughter of an aboriginal artist and a Swedish-Australian hippie. Her love for youth culture, fashion, summer and traveling have produced some amazing images that the sun has lit, the clouds have diffused and everyone wishes they had taken.

Nirrimi has experienced some recent success, by winning the Artist’s Wanted People’s Choice Award, but she’s no overnight sensation. She’s been passionate and dedicated to her craft since age 13 and hasn’t put down her camera since. She now is influential the world over shooting models for brands such as Diesel and appearing in the magazines Yen, Dolly, Creative, Oyster and Girlfriend. There doesn’t seem to be any stopping her with a book project underway and her new found love for writing and directing films.

Snap Orlando, May 20-23

If you’re in the Orlando area May 20-23, check out Snap! This 4-day photography event will showcase internationally acclaimed photographers and up-and-coming local artists. The event was designed by the creative minds behind the Lucie Foundation to inspire and empassion our community of artists, designers, and collectors of all ages that have a love for the photographic medium.

Over a dozen local art galleries, cafés, boutiques and exhibition spaces will be utilized throughout the Downtown Orlando area offering a glimps of the works of Douglas Kirkland, Lionel Deluy, Nico Ammann, Sinisha Nisevic, Chris Weeks, Anna Moller and many, many more. Workshops and seminars, VIP parties and community art projects will also be happening around the city.

Dane Peterson Photography

As a teenager living in Malibu, California, the undeniably talented Dane Peterson was immersed in the surfing lifestyle from an early age thanks to his father a surfer/shaper. His love for the ocean grew as he got to experience it for himself. Dane is as skilled on a board as he is behind the lens, which gives him the ability to capture moments most people overlook. He looks for the subtlety, the moments in between the action, from capturing tubes from the water to the nightly parties, he lives for the variety. Dane is currently the first/only surfer to both appear on the cover of The Surfer’s Journal as the subject and the photographer (issue 18.2).

Photography for Dane came purely by accident. He often traveled the world as a professional surfer and was once asked by a friend to document one of his trips to Japan. His life was forever changed as he waited for that first batch of film to be developed. He now resides on Australia’s Sunshine Coast in Yaroomba. The slower pace and ocean-loving vibe suits his laid back approach to life.

West Coast Polaroid Vans

We’re happy to announce that we’ve been commissioned by Vans Shoes to create a variety of one of a kind shoes for their nationwide Custom Culture Campaign.

These West Coast Polaroids are collaged from nearly 100 of our photographs from last year’s West Coast travels up the California coast from San Diego to San Francisco. Some of the highlights are images from places like the Sunset Cliffs, La Jolla, Ocean Beach, Huntington, Venice, Santa Monica, Big Sur, Monterrey, the bay area and more.

Here’s a look at the amazing CG short film called The Third & The Seventh from the talented Alex Roman. Not only does this video give love to the architecture around us and to cameras of all kinds, it’s actually not video at all, it’s almost all computer-generated. Everything except the skies and the guy shot on green screen is all CG. It’s mind-blowing to consider this is all developed in the computer and not shot on a 5d or 7d.Enjoy and do yourself a favor and watch it fullscreen!

PDN’s 30 Most Influencial Photographers of the Decade

In preparation for their 30th Anniversary Issue, PDN asked it’s online readers who the most influential living photographers of the last decade were. There where tons of responses and it caused quite the controversy because many couldn’t agree that some seemingly unknown photographers where really as influential as voters claimed. Many attributed them making the list to their reach with social network sites like Twitter and Facebook.

To deal with the disparities PDN decided to do three lists: Votes by number of individual voters, Votes by votes received, and number of votes per voter
